Mar 23-25: The National
Capital Chapter, AROC is sponsoring Il fine settimana la campagna (A
Weekend in the Country),The tour features outstanding scenery
and roads, charming accommodations and pleasant dining. With these
dates, we anticipate comfortable temperatures for both spiders and
enclosed cars which may not have the benefit of air conditioning. We
will visit and drive the historic and stunningly beautiful environs of
Lexington VA. Situated just 3-easy driving hours from the DC area,
Rockbridge County presents some of the finest Alfa roads and most
inspiring pastoral scenery on the East coast. (Think of paintings by
John Constable, Mary Cassatt, and William Merritt Chase). The weekend
begins on Friday March 23, with an Alfa caravan (optional) leaving the
DC area at 1:00 p.m. to travel via I-66 to I-81 to Lexington, and
finishes with a return to the DC area on Sunday. In addition to the
notable location, this special weekend has been designed to accommodate
a variety of interests and lodging choices/costs, and incorporate
flexibility for participants. The emphasis is on comfortable touring
without forsaking the Alfa spirit. ("Sprint" and "Veloce" are constants
in the Alfa lexicon!). It’s designed as a well-paced event with each
driving segment spanning approximately 1 - 1 1/4 hours, and time to
enable on-foot exploration of the shops, architecture and beauty of
both Lexington and Staunton.
