Semi-Permanent
Jack Chesley
Ok, so I know you should fix things properly, if possible... however, David and I were trying to install a rebuilt head in my Super on a Sunday afternoon so I could get to work on Monday, so bear with me. When we went to re-install the carburetor support bracket, I noticed that the rubber bushing at the bottom had disintegrated. After scraping out the remains of the old rubber, I cut a 6" strip of 1/16" neoprene (this is great stuff, but you could probably use an old inner tube), stretched it tightly around the inner metal tube from the old bushing and trimmed it until it just fit into the cleaned out bracket. When released, the strip expanded to fit tightly in place and, when installed, the motor mount keeps it from sliding sideways... voila, semi-permanent fix (but then, nothing's really permanent, is it?).
